Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup milk (at room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt (at room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For Coating:

  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 – 2 teaspoons cinnamon

For Filling Options:

  • Option 1: 1 box of instant vanilla JELLO
  • Option 2: 4 oz. white chocolate
  • Option 3: 4 oz. dark chocolate
  • Option 4: 4 oz. milk chocolate
  • Option 5: Nutella spread
  • Option 6: Caramel sauce
  • Option 7: Fruit preserves (e.g., raspberry, strawberry)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Batter:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Mix until well incorporated.
    • In another bowl, whisk together the milk, plain yogurt, granulated sugar, and melted butter until smooth.
    • Gradually add the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring until a smooth batter forms.
  2. Creating the Fillings:
    • For the vanilla JELLO filling, follow the package instructions to prepare it. Set it aside to cool.
    • Melt the white, dark, or milk chocolate of your choice in a heatproof bowl using the double boiler method. Allow it to cool to room temperature.
    • Alternatively, prepare other fillings like Nutella, caramel sauce, or warm fruit preserves to room temperature for piping.
  3. Forming the Poppers:
    • Fill a piping bag with the prepared fillings of your choice.
    • Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan or pot over medium heat to approximately 350°F (175°C).
    • Using a separate piping bag fitted with a round tip, pipe small circles of batter onto parchment paper.
    • Place a small amount of the chosen filling onto half of the batter circles. Top each with another batter circle, gently sealing the edges.
  4. Frying and Coating:
    • Carefully place the assembled poppers into the hot oil, frying for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown on all sides.
    • Remove the cooked poppers from the oil using a slotted spoon and let excess oil drain on paper towels.
    • In a shallow bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon. While the poppers are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  5. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Allow the Snickerdoodle Poppers to cool slightly before serving. These delightful treats are best enjoyed warm, offering a fusion of crispy exteriors and flavorful, gooey fillings.

Experiment with these diverse fillings to cater to various preferences. Whether you opt for a classic vanilla, dive into the richness of chocolates, indulge in the nutty goodness of Nutella, or explore fruity sensations, these Snickerdoodle Poppers are sure to delight your taste buds!
